Christian Karus teaches chemistry and geography at the Andreas-Vesalius-Gymnasium (AVG / MINT-EC school) in Wesel. He studied at the University Duisburg-Essen and served his apprenticeship at the Teachers' Training College Oberhausen. Since 2005 he teaches at the AVG in Wesel and campaigns for natural sciences as STEM-coordinator of the school. He also supports the MINT-EC cluster focusing on ‚chemistry‘. In 2012 he took part at the German Science on Stage Festival in Berlin and qualified for the European Science on Stage festival 2013 in Słubice-Frankfurt (Oder). After that he also took part in the following European Science on Stage festival 2015 with another project. He also qualified for the festival 2017 in Debrecen, Hungary - this time with a German-Dutch Joint Project. Christian Karus is an active member of Science on Stage. Since 2014 he is one of the coordinators of the project 'Teachers and Scientists'.

 

What does being a teacher mean to you?​

A basic reason and a big motivation for being a teacher are to me that I can help students to understand correlations in nature and watching them work with lots of curiosity and ambition.

Why participate?​

There is so much to learn from the colleagues of your country and from abroad. You suddenly come up with ideas you would not even have thought about before. 

 

 

Commitment at Science on Stage:

Participant German Science on Stage festival 2012 and 2014 (Berlin), participant European Science on Stage festival 2013 (Słubice-Frankfurt (Oder)), 2015 (London) and 2017 (Debrecen), since 2014 coordinator of the project ‚Teachers + Scientists‘.
