Holger Bach teaches maths and physics at the Hölty-Gymnasium Celle. For over 25 years he encourages his students to become engaged in sciences as advisor at numerous competitions like 'Jugend forscht', 'Schüler experimentieren' , 'Bundeswettbewerb Physik' or 'Mathematik-Olympiade' and campaigns for practical orientated science classes in cooperation with associate partners of the local economy. Furthermore he not only enthuses his students with creative teaching projects but also a broad audience at scientific exhibitions and competitions. For his merits on science education he was awarded with the 'Preis des Stifterverbands für die Deutsche Wissenschaft' in 2009 as well as with the 'Preis der Stiftung NiedersachsenMetall' in 2015. At Science on Stage he took an active part in the development of the teaching material 'Teaching Science in Europe 1 and 2' since 2004 and participated in the European Science on Stage festival in Grenoble in 2007. In 2010 and 2014 he again took part in the national Science on Stage festival in Berlin. In 2015 he was part of the German teachers' delegation at the European Science on Stage festival in London. Since 2015 he is a member of the Science on Stage BackStage-Team.

 

What does being a teacher mean to you?

To pass on my own fascination for my subjects to my students and conveying to them the beauty of sciences. It is great to watch them getting on a roll and inquistive, knowing it has been me who initiatied their curiousity. You just need to give them some credit.

The chance of being able to nationally and internationally network with colleagues is a very big factor why one should take part in Science on Stage. Your being rewarded with various contacts on a high professional level and numerous inspirations for your own classes and your school in general that you can pass on to your colleagues.

Participant 'Teaching Science in Europe 1 and 2' (2004-2008), participant European Science on Stage festival 2007 (Grenoble), participant National Science on Stage festival 2010 / 2014 (Berlin), participant European Science on Stage festival 2015 (London), since 2015 member of the BackStage-Team.
